I cannot say enough sweet things about these two! I knew as soon as Emily contacted me that we were going to get along well - she romantically described her plans to elope with Duane (surrounded by their immediate family) in Duluth in March and I was 100% in from that moment on.
Although they were "officially" tying the knot at a local restaurant in town, we knew that wouldn't be enough for some iconic Duluth wedding photos - so we paid a visit to our friends at the beautiful Glensheen Mansion. Being a preferred photographer at this venue, I highly recommend it to clients constantly, especially for small sessions like this (or engagement photos). Given the date, we weren't having to fight off too many crowds in March! And of course, the backdrops speak for themselves. Drool-worthy.
It might've been cold, but Duane and Emily braved it all, and smiled through the entire thing! We were able to capture those "iconic" Glensheen shots, along with some that featured the giant ice sheets floating in Lake Superior. You wouldn't know by looking at their final album that it was a brisk 30 degrees that day!
I always joke that as a wedding photographer, my job is easy when couples really, REALLY love each other - and that is obviously the case with these two. Their personalities fit so well together and they are both absolute sweethearts, so it's no wonder that they fell for one another quickly! One of my favorite things about Emily and Duane is how "go with the flow" they are, and that even though we were shivering and shaking, they were able to have fun walking, spinning, and dancing around the grounds of Glensheen in the ice and snow.
Once portraits were finished, we made our way up the hill, where Duane & Emily's families awaited their arrival at Valentini's Restaurant. Again, the group braved the cold and breezy day for some quick family photos at the Rose Gardens (what a good lookin' bunch!), before enjoying a delicious lunch and a few much needed glasses of wine (hey, it was cold people!). If you haven't been here before, please do yourself a favor and stop in! The dining room features an entire wall of windows that overlooks Lake Superior, and the staff was incredibly friendly and-helpful.
Duane and Emily, although we were only able to enjoy a few hours together, I am so thankful that I was able to join you for your big day and I had so much fun! I wish you both the best of luck as you start this next chapter and I'm excited to see all of the adventure waiting for you as husband and wife.
Congratulations, Emily & Duane! 3-30-2019 Duluth, MN
